Player of the Year โ€” Two Majors Left

Two majors remain in the 2026 Player of the Year: the Club Strokeplay on Saturday 19th September and Captain's Day on Saturday 26th September. A grade win at a major is worth 25 points. Weekend Round-Up: Interclub Qualification and Castletown Masters

A brilliant weekend for the club, capped by the team qualifying for the National Interclub Finals. National Interclub Qualifying (Leinster A), Stackallen, Sunday 6th September: ๐Ÿ† Killineer finished joint 2nd of the 15 teams on 18 under par, one shot behind Loughlinstown, to book their place in the National Finals. The team: Colm Lynch, Richard Tinley, Darren McKenna, Paddy Stevenson, Alan Kierans and Sean Clerkin. Best of the cards were Darren McKenna & Paddy Stevenson's 48 (โˆ’6) in the Scotch Foursomes and Sean Clerkin's 49 (โˆ’5) in the Singles. Castletown Masters: ๐Ÿ† Darren McKenna was Senior Runner-Up, finishing 3rd overall on 99. A big Killineer contingent made the trip. Also playing were Gerard Thornton (10th), Seanie Hoey, Derek Maguire, Kieran McDonnell, Kyle Thornton, Christopher Murray, Jude Garvey, Paddy Bird, Ann Bird, Darrah Branigan and Sean Clerkin, along with associate members Barry Dyas, Philip Reynolds, Gary Coyle, Anthony Butler, Mick Bowe, Paul Lynch, Darren Fagan, Jim Judge (Jnr) and Padraic Sarsfield. Eden Scratch Cup, Saturday 5th September: Derek Maguire finished 15th on 105. Paul Lynch also lined out, and played the Bagenalstown Scratch Cup the same day. Congratulations to all โ€” a great weekend to build on before the Club Strokeplay on 19th September.

Owen Brannigan Doubles Matchplay Final

The final of the Owen Brannigan Doubles Matchplay was played on Friday evening, 4th September. ๐Ÿ† Winners: Kevin O'Brien & Chris Behan, who beat Richard Tinley & Colm Lynch by 2 in a great final. In the 3rd/4th place play-off, Seanie Hoey & Alan Kierans beat Darrah Branigan & Packy McQuillan on the first play-off hole. The Owen Brannigan Cup was presented afterwards in Foley's by Irene Brannigan on behalf of sponsors Compressed Air Centre. Thanks to everyone who came along to support the players and make a night of it.

Killineer at the Oldcastle Open

Oldcastle Open 36-hole Strokeplay, Sunday 23rd August: five Killineer players travelled. Derek Maguire was the top finisher โ€” 6th overall in a field of 110, with rounds of 49 and 50 for 99 gross (3 POTY points). Also playing were Colm Lynch, Darrah Branigan, Shaun Conroy and Paddy Bird. All results count on the Player of the Year page.

Beat the Bot โ€” Can You Beat Your Predicted Score at MacBride?

Our Beat the Bot game is up and running for Saturday's MacBride Scratch Cup โ€” and for the first time, the predictions are live days in advance. The bot has studied every PPUI result and set a personal target score for all 23 Killineer players in the field, factoring in recent form, MacBride course history and the weather forecast. Think it's wrong about you? Put your coins where your putter is: 1. Go to killineerpitchandputt.ie/beat-the-bot 2. Pick your name, set a PIN โ€” you start with 100 club coins (free, no real money) 3. See your predicted score for MacBride 4. Stake 5, 10 or 20 coins on beating it โ€” beat your line on Saturday and double your stake Bets close 9am Saturday. Results settle automatically that night, and the Coin Leaderboard tracks bragging rights for the season. There's also a note on the page explaining exactly how the bot works โ€” so if your line seems harsh, blame the maths, not the committee.

Aaron McDonagh is National Intermediate Strokeplay Champion!

Aaron McDonagh is the 2026 National Intermediate Strokeplay Champion! Aaron was untouchable at the National Strokeplay Championship in Tullamore on Saturday โ€” he led the field of nearly 80 after the opening 36 holes on 96 (49 + 47), five shots clear, then shot 50 over the final 18 to take the All-Ireland title by seven on 146. He follows Sean Clerkin (2023) as a Killineer National Intermediate Strokeplay champion. Seanie Hoey and Colm Lynch also flew the flag for Killineer in Saturday's Intermediate championship. Sunday's Senior championship: Mark Millar โ€” made the cut for the final 18 and finished 7th of 80 on 145 (47 + 50 + 48). Sean Clerkin โ€” 39th on 104. John Cahill (Fermoy) took the Senior title on 136. Congratulations Aaron โ€” All-Ireland Champion 2026! ๐Ÿ†

National Gents Strokeplay This Weekend โ€” Good Luck to Our Five!

Five Killineer players are in action at the National Gents Strokeplay finals in Tullamore this weekend โ€” best of luck to all! Saturday 8th โ€” Intermediate: Colm Lynch (8:30am) โ€” 3rd in the Leinster finals and 3rd in qualifying, our steadiest Inter all summer. Aaron McDonagh (10:18am) โ€” topped the L/D/M qualifying and was 5th in the Leinster finals. Seanie Hoey (1:30pm) โ€” reigning club matchplay champion and 2026 LDM county matchplay winner. Sunday 9th โ€” Senior: Mark Millar (8:42am) โ€” three-time All-Ireland champion (National Matchplay 2000 & 2001, National Strokeplay 2017), 3rd in this year's Irish Open, and runner-up in the county strokeplay and the Killineer Scratch Cup.
