The 2026 Player of the Year is decided. Captain's Day was the last of the 68 competitions to count, and Seanie Hoey finishes on 199 points, 50 clear of Darren McKenna on 149, with Mark Millar third on 114. 🏆 Player of the Year 2026: Seanie Hoey, 199 points from 24 competitions. Seanie's year: LDM Junior Matchplay Champion (22nd April), the win that put him top of the standings. He was never headed after it. Club Matchplay Champion, Intermediate (4th July). Club Strokeplay, 1st Intermediate (19th September), after a 9-hole playoff with Kyle Thornton settled by a hole-in-one at the 10th in sudden death. Captain's Day, 1st Intermediate (26th September), with a 50 in the first round. Three weekly club competition wins: the 18 Nett in April, the 18 Gross in May and Club Comp 4 in August. 2nd in grade at the Laytown and Nicky Lynch scratch cups, and top 20 at the Patsy Hoey, MacBride and Castletown Masters. Played the National Intermediate Strokeplay Final at Tullamore, semi-finalist in the Owen Brannigan Doubles with Alan Kierans, and a doubles prize at the Ringcommons Open. Grade winners: 🏆 Senior: Darren McKenna, 149. Club Strokeplay champion, 3rd at the Killineer Scratch Cup and the Castletown Masters, and part of the team that qualified for the National Interclub Finals. Mark Millar 114, Aaron McDonagh 105. 🏆 Intermediate: Gerard Thornton, 105. He played 33 competitions, more than anyone in the club, with 3rd at the PJ & Catherine Bell Seniors National Championship the pick of them. Derek Maguire 101, Kyle Thornton 82. 🏆 Junior: Kevin O'Brien and Christopher Behan, tied on 68. Kevin won the Club Matchplay and the Junior grade at the Club Strokeplay; Christopher was runner-up in the LDM Junior Matchplay and won the Junior grade at the Old County Scratch Cup, and the two of them won the Owen Brannigan Doubles together. His opening 47 included a front nine of 22. 🏆 Senior: John Conaghan 101 (50+53), from Barry Dyas 103 (53+52). 🏆 Intermediate: Seanie Hoey 100 (50+55), from Mick Bowe 101 (54+51). 🏆 Junior: Cillian Brown 97 (52+54), from Richard Tinley 103 (58+54). Cillian's 97 was second best on the day, helped by a back nine of 23. 🏆 Best back nine: Kieran McDonnell, 24. 🏆 Hole-in-one: Ged Thornton at the 3rd. Kyle Thornton (3rd) and Christopher Behan (2nd) also had one. Stats of the day, from the 29 cards — 1,044 holes played: 3 holes-in-one, 175 birdies (17%), 635 pars (61%), 191 bogeys (18%) and 40 doubles or worse (4%). Steadiest cards: Aaron McDonagh and Anthony Butler dropped shots on just 3 holes out of 36; Barry Dyas and Stephen Behan on 4. Alongside the weekly turkeys there is the Hamper Competition, kindly sponsored by Tuite's Butchers, Drogheda, as well as a 2s Competition and a Hole-in-One Competition. A brilliant weekend for the club, capped by the team qualifying for the National Interclub Finals. National Interclub Qualifying (Leinster A), Stackallen, Sunday 6th September: 🏆 Killineer finished joint 2nd of the 15 teams on 18 under par, one shot behind Loughlinstown, to book their place in the National Finals. The team: Colm Lynch, Richard Tinley, Darren McKenna, Paddy Stevenson, Alan Kierans and Sean Clerkin. Best of the cards were Darren McKenna & Paddy Stevenson's 48 (−6) in the Scotch Foursomes and Sean Clerkin's 49 (−5) in the Singles. Castletown Masters: 🏆 Darren McKenna was Senior Runner-Up, finishing 3rd overall on 99. A big Killineer contingent made the trip. Also playing were Gerard Thornton (10th), Seanie Hoey, Derek Maguire, Kieran McDonnell, Kyle Thornton, Christopher Murray, Jude Garvey, Paddy Bird, Ann Bird, Darrah Branigan and Sean Clerkin, along with associate members Barry Dyas, Philip Reynolds, Gary Coyle, Anthony Butler, Mick Bowe, Paul Lynch, Darren Fagan, Jim Judge (Jnr) and Padraic Sarsfield. Eden Scratch Cup, Saturday 5th September: Derek Maguire finished 15th on 105. Paul Lynch also lined out, and played the Bagenalstown Scratch Cup the same day. The final of the Owen Brannigan Doubles Matchplay was played on Friday evening, 4th September. 🏆 Winners: Kevin O'Brien & Chris Behan, who beat Richard Tinley & Colm Lynch by 2 in a great final. In the 3rd/4th place play-off, Seanie Hoey & Alan Kierans beat Darrah Branigan & Packy McQuillan on the first play-off hole. The Owen Brannigan Cup was presented afterwards in Foley's by Irene Brannigan on behalf of sponsors Compressed Air Centre. Thanks to everyone who came along to support the players and make a night of it.

The bot has studied every PPUI result and set a personal target score for all 23 Killineer players in the field, factoring in recent form, MacBride course history and the weather forecast. Aaron McDonagh is the 2026 National Intermediate Strokeplay Champion! Aaron was untouchable at the National Strokeplay Championship in Tullamore on Saturday — he led the field of nearly 80 after the opening 36 holes on 96 (49 + 47), five shots clear, then shot 50 over the final 18 to take the All-Ireland title by seven on 146. He follows Sean Clerkin (2023) as a Killineer National Intermediate Strokeplay champion. Seanie Hoey and Colm Lynch also flew the flag for Killineer in Saturday's Intermediate championship. Sunday's Senior championship: Mark Millar — made the cut for the final 18 and finished 7th of 80 on 145 (47 + 50 + 48). Sean Clerkin — 39th on 104. John Cahill (Fermoy) took the Senior title on 136. Aaron McDonagh (10:18am) — topped the L/D/M qualifying and was 5th in the Leinster finals. Seanie Hoey (1:30pm) — reigning club matchplay champion and 2026 LDM county matchplay winner.
